Found China Dessert Stands – Tutorial

I made vintage china dessert stands last Christmas for family. You can see that post here. Recently, I came across similar treat pedestals on BHLDN selling for $60-80!

These are incredibly simple to make and luckily, I live close to Replacements Ltd.  For those of you unfamiliar with this place, it is essentially a huge building full of almost every china pattern ever made! It’s fantastic just to browse all the amazing china, crystal and silver they have.

The best part is that Replacements Ltd. has an overstock room and a clearance room where you can pick up the most amazing pieces for great prices without having to buy a whole set.

In addition to Replacements Ltd., I stumbled onto a great estate auction last weekend where I picked up four boxes full of crystal candle sticks, stemware and milk glass for $17! It was my first experience with that type of auction. It was held in someone’s front yard and everything in the house, well even the house, was auctioned off at lightning speed. Crazy.

Well, back to my dessert pedestals. I first chose my china patterns and bases. This was almost solely based on budget and availability. You could spend a lot if you wanted a specific pattern but I stayed open minded.

Next, I washed all my pieces very well and then decided on the combinations of plates and bases I wanted. I used E6000 adhesive instead of the Epoxy I used last time I made these. E6000 is serious stuff so open the windows and wear gloves! I even used a small paint brush to apply it.

E6000 needs 24 hours to cure so below are all my pieces drying out.

Once everything was set, all my treat stands were finished. Simple as that! I made so many because Andrea from Studio Eleven 11 is selling her jewelry at our city’s indie market next month and asked if I’d make something to sell along with her. I love the stacked piece above in the foreground. I included a little milk glass sugar bowl on top to act as a bud vase. I plan on filling some of these with cookies and flowers for presentation when selling. :)

Thanks! I wish I could keep them all.

Oh and the post office made me fill out a form detailing what I was sending to you…so the box may say there’s a scarf in there but it’s really chocolate…hehe
